Extra credit is addressed here. Please note that the most extra credit possible is less than 1/3 of a grade. Extra credit will only be counted in cases where students' final grades are right at the cutoff between 2 grades (then it may help to push up).

The Pace University library has set up a useful guide for independent research designed for students who are interested in business ethics, and or/those seeking material for extra credit projects. The link is here.

Week 13

Thursday 4 December Wednesday 10

This week we will continue our discussion of several general issues in business and economics ethics. The focus will be the subject of wealth distribution in society, and concerns surrounding wealth concentration in few hands.

Our video & discussion board work this week can be found below.

This is our final week of standard coursework. Congratulations! And, next week there will be a review session and video in preparation for the final exam.

The final will be cumulative. As you may remember from the midterm, the exam is broken into two parts: short answers where you choose 4 of the questions, and then essays, where you choose 2 of the 3. The short answers will be drawn entirely from our work since the midterm (Chapters 4, 12, 13, 14, & 16 in the textbook). For the essays, I will require that you form one of your responses around the theories from Chapter 4. For the other essay, you may use any of the theories that we have studied during the semester.

The exam is open book - you are free to use your textbook, notes and the class videos.

Then, the exam will be available to you Sunday Morning December 14, and must be emailed back by Tuesday the 16th, at 5:00 pm. This provides you with some week time, and some weekend time for the work. Plus, you have 3 days, instead of the 2 for the midterm.

There are no extensions on the final exam for any reason (this is why I give you the extra day)!

Please remember to email me the exam at: jbrusseau@pace.edu - Do not hit "reply" on an email you have received as it may go awry!

Please label the file "Smith.doc"

Please send a doc or txt file! (If a PDF is sent, there will be a 5 point penalty.) Please do not send a link as it will not be opened, the file must be attached to the email, not linked from it!

The exam will be on Classes, under the Announcements column.

Review, Reading, Lecture & Discussion

Review

Please watch the professor's video response to the shareholder/stakeholder db.

Reading
Our reading homework will be Chapter 16 of Business Ethics Workshop, the chapter titled The Domination Office: The Star System and Labor Unions.

Online Lecture + Discussion: Wealth Inequality

Last discussion! This week, something a bit different. We will be working on applying what we have learned over the semester, and applying it in everyday life.

As opposed to the previous discussions on the Pace discussion board, this is a public board, and I would like to see you comment as though you were writing not for me or a professor, but for the world in general.

Please post a quick response over the weekend, and then, because this is your graduation discussion, please respond heartily (which does not mean that it has to be long, but it should reflect thought) to at least 1 other post.

Again, please treat this as a normal discussion, not a hw assignment. I will be grading on your ability to talk about business ethics with regular people out in the world!

The video and the discussion board question - which concerns wealth distribution, freedom, equality, and Rawls' Veil of Ignorance - can be found here:

http://wealthinequalityworkshop.org/

Please watch the video, then respond to the thought experiment which is there on the webpage with the video.

Important: The question for discussion is on the wealthinequalityworkshop.org page, it is NOT on Classes. The question concerns the Rawls thought experiment. The discussion board is on the bottom of the wealthinequalityworkshop.org page: It is the Disqus board.

Important: So I can sort out who responded with what, please email me your contributions when you are finished with them all! (Please don't send a seperate email for each.) My email is jbrusseau@pace.edu

Finally, please remember that this is a graduation exercise, so write like you would were you just participating in a discussion on your own: try to consolidate what we have learned this semester.

Date for completion
Responses by noon Wednesday.
